Google has a program called Google Grants that has been designed to help non-profit organisations. This is how the program is described by Google:
“The Google Grants program empowers over 6,000 organizations to achieve their goals by helping them promote their websites via advertising on Google. Google ads appear when users search on Google. For example when you search for “world poverty” on Google, text ads related to world poverty appear on the right hand side. When you click on one of the ads, you are brought to the website being advertised.”
All Organizations that receive the Google Grant will have an Adwords account which can be used it in a variety of ways, including general outreach, fundraising activities, and recruitment of volunteers. Every account will have a budget of 10K$ per month.
The Adwords account will have some limitations. Those are:
- Your maximum bid can be 1$
- You can advertise only in Google Search
- You can’t use the account for “commercial ads”
How to apply to Google Grants
I bet that every non-profit organisation would be more than happy to receive a grant for free advertising in the strongest and more efficient media available online, especially when we are talking about a budget that can reach 120K$ per year. So how can you apply?
First of all, I must say that you should get someone expert in Adwords to submit your application. Google requires you to have at least a basic understanding of Google Grants and Google AdWords to apply for the grant. In the application, that you can submit here, you will be asked to provide a set of keywords, ad copy and a statement of how the organisation will benefit from Adwords. This part is very important for the success of the application, so make sure you get it right.
Again, I suggest you to do this with a Google Adwords Consultant or with someone that knows at least the basics of Adwords and the Grant program.
You can find all the guidelines of the Google Grant program here.
If you need help with your application, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I offer this service free of charge to all non-profit organisations that wish to apply to the Google Grant program. I currently manage big non-profit organisations Adwords campaigns that have been awarded with the same grant.
